In my experience, Corvair people tend to have a wide range of interests aside from Corvairing, so I thought I would throw this out there.
American service members are permitted to compete for something called the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge. The award consists of a gold, silver,
or bronze spread eagle (unfortunate, but what can you do?) that American soldiers are permitted to wear on their dress uniform.
Happily, my overarching command saw to it that we had the opportunity to compete, so I signed up. Only a couple of hours ago we completed the first four athletic
events and I did pretty well. Actually, I'm in the running for a gold.
However, it's the next event that has me a little worried: the pistol range. Not to put too fine a point on it, but I'm a lousy shot. You're probably wondering how a soldier in the United States Army could be anything less
than a marksman, and all I can say is we're all pretty well screwed if national security is in the hands of a single lawyer clutching his M9.
Question: is anyone out there exceptionally good with a pistol? If so, would you like to train me up? Needless to say, range time is on me. The event
consists of 2x 25 meter shots standing, 2x 25m shots kneeling, and 2x 25m shots laying prone. Weapon is a 9mm. The target is a human silhouette -- you can hit him in the head or the gut or the knee, but you have to hit him somewhere. To continue my gold medal onslaught I have to go
6 for 6.
Many thanks,
daniel
