Hey Group,
Some of the NVCC gang might might be intereted in joining my AACA Region -- Sugarloaf Mountain Region -- on thier first tour of the year. The Heater Tour. This region likes to eat and tour! So they do around 5-6 tours a year including a two day overnight tour
The Tour will be on Saturday , Feb. 28th leaving Potomac, Maryland at 9:00am.
You guys would be coming as my guests. If you are already in AACA and like this group it is cheap to join them and/or the new Betheda Chapter whose meetings are not so out of the area for our members.
This first Tour is being done by Lee Sutherland and Charlie Carroucio. Some of you guys who go to the Rockville Show in fall may already know Charlie.
The next tour will be in April -- The Cobweb Tour - more old stuff will come out then. Might not be as much Vintage stuff this time.
So here is the Basics: The tour will organize and take off from the Shopping Center by the Safeway and the Starbucks in Potomac Village at the SE coner of the Intersection of River Road and Falls Road in Potomac, Md. Tour will leave at 9:00am sharp. It will then proceed on some interesting roads for about an hour plus to the Parking lot for the Udvar - Hazy / Air and Space Museum. There is a $15 Charge for the parking, so you may want to vintage carpool. We will then proceed to the museum and be given a tour by Peter Jacob ( an SMR Member ) who is Chief Curator of the Air and Space Museums and is from Alexandria ( so a NVCC area guy). Should be interesting and maybe some peaks at areas not as readily accesible. Peter is a super nice guy so I am thinking it might be good.
I have never been out there all of these years so I want to go!
The group will then proceed to a nearby place to have lunch ( not provided ).```Then tour back to Maryland on some other interesting roads. The NVCC guys can bow out if they want or do some more driving.
If any of you are going to the meeting at Fred Marx'x place I believe the directions brings you close to or by Potomac Village where the tour begins and may also end. So you should also be able to leave your car there and drive with some one if you wish to do the whole tour.
You won't see as many Vintage Vehicles, but you might enjoy the SMR people. Several Corvair guys. Rick Sanford and Bruce Mazzie are two.
Let me know at least a week ahead of time if you think you want to come along. This is a courtesy as they would like a head count for the Museum and the Resturant. If you are a Fred's at least let me know by then.
So Saturday Feb. 28th leaving at 9:00am from Falls Rd and River Rd in Potomac. The weather would have to be really bad to cancel as you can definitly drive your modern iron on this tour.
Give it a try and maybe it will get you up for some other tours and of course the Orphan Tour ( Not SMR).
