The choke doesn't open all the way by itself? Wait, the choke plate
should be OPEN at idle, not closed. Closed choke is only on a cold
non-running engine. As soon as the engine starts, the choke pull off
will open the choke plate to about 1/4" (actual spec is in the shop
manual). When warm, the choke plate should be standing tall, fully
open.<br>

Are you meaning throttle plates? If so, new throttle shafts are
available from our vendors. Pretty easy to install. Just have to
deal with those brass screws.<br>

A wiggling choke shaft is not too unusual. But, these are also
available new. Cheap too.<br>

Gas dribbling means it is time for a rebuild. Could be just a too
high float setting or leaking needle/seat, but it never seems to be
that easy.<br>
<br>
With Bob Helt's book, you can tell the year of the carb. There are
minor differences between years. <br>

Even with the new linkage, the primaries still get hung up at
idle because the choke plates refuse to close all the way
(unless I manipulate the cross shaft by hand). On the secondary
we removed during the tech session, the shaft for the choke
plate was wiggling around; as for the other,
gas dribbles into the bowl even when the car isn't running. </p>

primary carburetors I believe I obtained from L.D. before he
moved from the area in the mid 2000s.
One set has a note that says they faltered when installed, but
the others seem like they were pretty thoroughly rebuilt from
all outward appearances (moreover, no note). I have no idea
what year these carbs are, but again, from all outward
appearances they certainly *okay* and don't have
any play. L.D., if in fact I obtained these carbs from you and
you recall the history, please chime in. If I have the time I
will install them this week.</p>
