I am on the same page as you. We all have stories about how magnetic our special cars can be. A combination of curiosity for those who are not familiar with the unique nature of our cars and memories of those who had someone in their
life who "had one of those" can be a powerful catalyst to get new members. We need to attract both current Corvair owners and get future owners excited about finding their first one. I'm like you in that my first cat was a 63 Monza convertible so these quirky
and unique cars have a special place in my life. We need to be a part of the future of the Corvair marque to insure its continuation.

Social media is an effective way to reach a large audience of potential owners and to get the word out. That combined with showing the cars at events allows people to actually touch them and learn more about them can insure the future

And finally, the DCMVA area has a strong collectable car culture that is waiting to be tapped. Almost every time I have taken my Corvair to cars and coffee in Great Falls someone has approached me and said they have a corvair at home.
Let's become a part of this gathering and use it as a vehicle to promote and recruit new Corvair people.

Hi All-

Just wanted to put a few thoughts and ideas out for the Vair Fair. For what it's worth, I realize I'm new to the group, as far as participation, etc, and forgive me if I throw out any things that have been hashed out or trashed for whatever
reason, but I like to think that I'm an 'idea guy'. I think that it's much better to throw out 100 ideas, even if 99 of them are trash. If 1 idea is successful, it's worth bringing up.

First, although I haven't been involved, I have owned corvairs since 1988, at age 16. My experience over the years is that Corvair owners tend to get comfortable in our little world and social circles. That's fine, but realize that in
order for our cars to continue on in life, we must bring in new and fresh people and spirit. That means bringing in young people- 20's and 30's. This should not be hard for us to do, as I have found that the younger generation really DOES appreciate out
cars. They haven't been tainted by false stereotypes and stories about the Corvair. And they DO appreciate the styling of the cars. My experience is that, with a few things that might capture their attention, they are stunned by our cars.

We should take advantage of this. Through social media and proper marketing (shoestring- not money), we can reach out to a whole new group of potential Corvair fans and collectors. I think it would be silly not to do this. We need
fresh people who have a desire to keep our cars on the road.

I have a large circle of classic car owner friends. And this circle is larger, beyond my inner circle. Many of these guys would love to come to the Vair Fair and maybe.. buy a t-shirt or whatever. I think local media would also love
a 'comeback kid' story for the local papers.

From the meeting/holiday party, I just was a bit discouraged by hearing people sit around and talking about selling a maximum of 50 t-shirts. And not because I would make money- as I said, I am happy to do shirts at near cost... but because
I would never settle for hosting an event where we would have people come from all over, yet only sell 50 t-shirts. I think we should all open our minds a bit to what the future holds for Corvairs. I believe they are one of the most beautifully designed
cars of the 60's. Definitely, as far as American made, and for a GM car.. (although I always loved Corvettes and Impalas, Corvairs have a European feeling body line that was very unique).

I would love to help make the 2016 Vair Fair an event that will help bring more positive attention to our cars. I think we need to create social media accounts like Instagram and Twitter, in addition to the facebook page, and make it a
point to get tons of new followers. I'm happy to volunteer to run an Instagram account. I think we can grow lots of support that way.

Sorry for the rambling email- my time is narrow and randomly found these days, but I think we can make a very positive impact on car lovers in the DC are and beyond. Let's do it.
