I'll see you all at breakfast on Sunday, but I'd like to ask for opinions on a problem I'm having with my car.
I did a tune up yesterday. New points, plugs, rotor and distributor cap. Dwell is right on the money, and timing is set at 12 btdc.
Car is stumbling like a fouled spark plug or dirt in the carburetor. Plug wires are fairly new and snug on the plugs and the distributor. On the first pass, I didn't put the rotor in tight so the "teeth" on the underside were chipped off. I replaced both rotor and distributor cap and removed the two chipped pieces of plastic from the distributor.
I know that, at some point, I'm going to need to replace the distributor because the screw hole for the silver distributor cap is stripped, but that's a pre-existing condition that caused no problems over the last four years.
Ideas and suggestions are welcome. I'll stumble the Corvair to breakfast on Sunday. It'll make it, but it's running crappy. The car was running great before I did the tuneup; I just wanted to see if I could make it run better since I hadn't tuned it up in 7,000 miles (4 years).
