[PPCC] Brake Master Cylinder Stop Screw Question

I posted this on the Corvair Center forum also.

 

I picked up a remanufactured Master Cylinder from my FLAPS, original GM#
5452310. Upon close inspection, the port for the stop screw in the primary
reservoir is not drilled deep enough. The upper part is drilled and tapped
but does not extend into the main bore. I removed the pistons to verify
this. What is the purpose of the stop screw and is it necessary? Do I need
to drill the MC to accommodate this screw?
