Hello everyone in the PPCC and RMC,
As the weather begins to turn, so too do the leaves on the trees, so it's once again that time of year for us to gas up the Corvairs, roll down the windows, and enjoy the colors that a nice leisurely drive through the Colorado mountains can bring.
Our Fall Drive this year will take place on Sunday, September 29th with a scenic drive up to the town of Pine, Colorado, about 45 miles Southwest of Denver, and 60 miles Northwest of Colorado Springs. The plan is for everyone to meet up at the Denver Botanical Gardens at Chatfield parking lot (8500 W. Deer Creek Canyon Road in Littleton) between 10:30 and 11:00am, with a departure time to Pine of 11:00 am.
* Folks in the Springs area may choose to gather at an alternate location to begin the drive, however going 24W to 67N may have some dirt/gravel roads to contend with as the last couple years of floods having washed several away.
Once in Pine, I've coordinated with the chef at Zoka's Restaurant, one of the local eateries, to provide us with a special "PPCC Fall Drive" menu, which will allow the kitchen to keep up with the orders and quickly put out the food. You can certainly order off of their larger menu, but you may have to wait a little longer for your order to arrive. I gave the restaurant an estimated attendance of 40 folks, which is what we saw as an average over the past couple years.
Items being presented on the lunch menu include:
House Smoked Pork Green Chili Scramble (as a breakfast item)
House Salad
Caesar Salad
House Cured Corned Beef Reuben
House smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich
Zoka Burger
House Smoked Turkey Sandwich
Key Lime Pie
Milk Stout Chocolate Brownie
* For those who may have the need, the restaurant does offer a selection of gluten-free items, including bread and pasta.
Check out their full menu with prices on their website @ http://www.zokas.com
Looking forward to a nice day, with comfortable weather, and seeing a looooong line of Corvairs rolling through the mountains. This may be your last change to beat the winter weather, so come on out and have a great time with the group!!
