Thank you for yet another wonderful edition of The Drip Line, Kathy!!
And thank you to all who had contributed to this month's effort.
I will say that the article Kathy wrote on volunteering to step up in to a leadership or support chair role was truly inspiring. As Kathy had noted in the article, when there are a small group of folks who seemingly do the lion's share of the work to keep the Club afloat and running smoothly, there is a huge risk of burn-out, and I will readily admit to feeling that burn myself.
Let me share my story, and some thoughts:
New to the Club in 2010, I first took on the role as President of the PPCC back in Jan of 2013, and after serving in that role for 2 years, I then supported the Club and our next President (Randy Karl) as Club Vice President for another two years. About that same time frame, I wanted to drive a number of personal initiatives designed to increase our membership roles, so I volunteered to serve as Membership Chair. And, when the Club joined up with the Collector Car Council of Colorado (CCCC), I signed on to be the Club's Rep at those monthly meetings as well.
During that same period, I began publishing the Club's newsletter, wanting to better inform our members as to what was going on in the Club, what was happening in the Southern Colorado car culture, and to bring national attention to our wonderful Club. After a 5 year run as Editor, I walked away with three 1st Place awards and a 3rd Place award in CORSA's Outstanding Newsletter competition. Along the way, I got to know the Club membership, learned lots about the cars, and really enjoyed the experience. Add in there a current stint as Webmaster, and one of the Facebook moderators, you can tell that I've dove into the Club operations deeply for well over the past 7 years.
Well, as many of you know, life changes, and as my family's situation has changed over the past several years, so too have my priorities, and I have had to recently step back from pretty much all of those roles. Now, I need to echo the call to service that Kathy so eloquently delivered in the newsletter.
Those of you who have been on the Club's roster for several years, but for whatever reason, haven't attended meetings, or events, or we've never even had a chance to meet you in person, now is the time. We DO need you to step up and take on one of the open roles next year. Many of you are retired (I'm not), so, throw yourself into the Club next year, and take us to the next level.
The last thing I'll mention is that we have a great membership base, just a really great group of folks, many of whom I'm proud to call my closest friends. I made those connections by way of the Corvair, and getting involved in the Club's business and interests. Give it a shot, you will not regret it, after all, it's just time, and what else would you be doing anyway :)
Thank you for the inspiring article, and newsletter, Kathy!
