Power glide and torque converter

G'day all,
Rex is just about to set fire to the car, and has asked me to ask the brains (and parts) trust if you can help.
It's very frustrating that we have maintained the car, and yet it still doesn't seem to want to...A) startB) run
It is still hard to start, even with a new starter motor and fuel pump, and continues to stall at every opportunity, and not want to go into second gear for about 10 minutes. The dip in revs when you put it into drive from neutral is ridiculous, which also adds to the propensity to stall.
>From previous discussions, we seem to remember that it may be the transmission, and also possibly the torque converter.
Does anybody have these parts?
