Hi folks,

I had an interesting and somewhat disturbing call earlier today from an owner of a '64 Monza 900.

The owner is Mark Bailey, Cell # 719.599.5951. He lives in Colorado Springs.

I spoke with him for a while, and the hopefully shorter version of his issue is that he has a '64 that was painted red as a Shriner car. He wanted it repainted to blue, closer to the original color. 5 1/2 years ago he took the car to an auto restorer firm in the Springs to have the paint done along with some mechanical work and trim work. The restorer did not hustle to get the work done and he relocated his shop. The car may have been outside for a period of time and a new viny top was stained. The shop owner has ordered him a new top. It sounds like the person who took the car apart is no longer there. The shop guy is not particularly versed at Corvairs, being more of a Corvette and more valuable car person. Mark said the status of the car now is that there are many trim items that were there when he took the car in that are not there now. They may be in a box in the corner someplace...

Mark's request is if there is someone who is knowledgeable about the '64 and would have a bit of time to look at the car with him in the shop, at least from a trim perspective to see what is missing he would appreciate the help. It also sounds like there was some mechanical and suspension work done (the transverse leaf spring was mentioned specifically). He is hoping to present the shop owner with a list of missing items to negotiate replacements before he takes possession of the car. He understands he may have to do some of the reassembly work himself and he may need to hunt for some items in the wild.

Please give Mark a call if you can help. No wrenches required.

Regards,

Mike
