01-May FRIDAY
Dan Palmer made an expedition to Taos to coordinate. He found
everyone very helpful. The Police Chief said there would be a
motorcycle escort for our downtown "cruise" - not "parade" -
before the start of the car show back at the hotel. Dan talked
to several businesses in town who will plan some support for us.
11-May MONDAY
Deadline for pre-ordering Tri-State T-Shirts or Polo Shirts
28-May THURSDAY
Some may arrive early. Free time -- tour historic Taos?
We may need ice chests at the registration table, for Friday only.
If anyone can bring one or two, that would be much appreciated.
Hotel check-in time will be 2:00 - 3:00 PM.
29-May FRIDAY
Albuquerque members may want to caravan up to Taos. If you do,
meet at "the usual place" on I-25 just NORTH of the freeway exit
to Bernalillo and Placitas. Be there by 8:45 or so for a 9:00 AM
departure. It should take about two and a half hours if you go
the most direct way, longer if you take "the high road to Taos"
and go via Chimayo, Truchas and Ranchos de Taos.
NOON to 7:00 PM - Registration
7:00 PM to 8:30 PM - Native American Dancers in Hotel Patio
30-May SATURDAY
6:30 AM to 8:30 AM - Continental Breakfast. Finish Registration
NOTE: anyone arriving after the 8:30 AM "last call"
to register can still get banquet tickets. The hotel
will have them at the front desk and will sell them
for us, on Saturday only, from 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM.

Subject: Taos sites
"Taos vacation guide.com" has an excellent sampling of sights to visit in
the Taos area, along with a map and a circle tour. A printed copy is easily
obtainable from the Visitor Center about a mile south of the plaza, along
with other sources.
Some of my favorites include:
1. Taos Pueblo. See how a thousand-year-old apartment building looks.
2. Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. 650 feet above the Rio Grande, this bridge
cut over 100 miles from the car trip across the north of the state.
3. San Francisco de Asis church in Ranchos de Taos. One of the most
painted and photographed churches in the country.
4. Domes and earth-sheltered homes are scattered around; many are
visible east of the bridge area.
5. Millicent Rogers museum. Of the many museums in Taos, this has the
widest variety of art and artifacts of a multicultural area.
6. Padre Martinez hacienda. See how a political boss lived 300 years ago in NM.
7. (but not least) Viet Nam Memorial. Actually it's in Angel Fire, but
not too far along the southern leg of the circle tour. A museum and
memorial chapel, built almost single-handedly by Dr. Westfall, a
retired educator, in memory of his son, a marine officer killed in
Viet Nam, and including many New Mexico casualties. Now a state
memorial; a beautiful, and extremely moving site.
There are many more places to visit, but these are my picks.

<B>FRANCIS BOYDSTON AWARD -- CURRENT PROCEDURES: </B>
The CNM president should appoint a Selection Committee of at least 3 members:
* Pat Hall CNM vice-president (required by present guidelines)
* LeRoy Rogers received award in 2006 (optional committee member)
* John Koll received award in 2007 (optional committee member)
* Dennis Pleau received award in 2008 (optional committee member)
NOTE: the presidents of PIKES PEAK and ROCKY MOUNTAIN should concur with
the appointment of Selection Committee members from their clubs.

The nomination form was published in the March CNM newsletter.

Nominations were collected by the end of the April 1st meeting.

The Selection Committee will determine the 2009 Boydston Award recipient
and see that the plaque is ordered.

The Award will be presented at the May Tri-State Banquet.

<B>FUTURE OF THE BOYDSTON AWARD: </B>
There have been discussions at CNM in recent years that we should
change or discontinue the Boydston Award "because there aren't that
many people left in the clubs who knew Francis Boydston." Officers
from CORVAIRS OF NEW MEXICO, PIKES PEAK and ROCKY MOUNTAIN plus any
other interested members of these three clubs could meet in Taos
during the 2009 event to discuss the future of the Award.
It has been suggested that the Boydston Award should move from CNM to
the organizers and interested parties of future Tri-State Meets.
We hope interested parties from the three clubs will meet to discuss
this issue at the Taos Tri-State in May 2009.
The possibilities seem to be:
1) CNM continues the award with the current guidelines.
2) An interested Tri-State Committee takes over the award.
3) CNM abandons the Award.
