I have a document describing how to change a TC on a late. It was based on notes from Steve with my own experience added. I presume an early is similar but we can ask Steve. My experience with a bad TC replaced with a High Stall one from Clarks would address about 1/2 of Rex's concerns and it made a huge difference but not the shifting when hot/cold part (mine was fine) unless it is low on fluid or the fluid is dirty. It was a bit of a job to do, and I took at least 10 pounds of dirt/crud/gravel off of the assembly so I could even see the basic outline of the equipment. If Rex could see the governor he is way ahead of where I started. It is possible with some effort to remove the torque converter without removing the engine.

Regards,

Mike

> On 12/03/2023 10:24 AM MST JOHN DAWSON via PPCC-List <ppcc-list@corvair.org> wrote:
>
>
> From the symptoms described, the issue is probably the torque converter. It may be time to consider one from Clark's (maybe the hi-stall one). A rebuilt TC can be pricey. You could install a used one, but you might run the risk of adding sludge to the system.
