You do NOT need to take the transmission and differential out which does save some work. It is not a simple project in any case.</span>

<span style="font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;">I don't know that a bad torque converter would affect starting if the transmission is in neutral. It could profoundly affect stalling once the system is warmed up. Before I replaced mine, the engine would die on Interstate off ramps well before the stop at the end. Then it would start in neutral and not idle in gear so getting going involved revving the engine up and slamming it into gear. Not at all a PG friendly technique.</span>
