I am very, very reluctantly selling my Corvair powered Porsche. My Porvair is a 1966 Porsche 912 powered by a reversed-engine 164 CI Corvair turbo converted to two Rochester H carbs. The main reason that I am selling my Porvair is that I no longer have the time to work on it - I have too many other projects and not enough time or space to properly work on the car.
The good, bad, and ugly: The car runs well, but the body needs attention, the driver’s floor pan is patched but could use a good replacement panel. The rest of the pan is solid. The car has other body rust, but nothing that would keep you from driving it. The car is two tone: red with a black hood, roof, and engine cover.
The engine runs well, but does leak oil from the rear (pulley end) seal. The engine and carbs were build by Steve Goodman. He originally had a Rochester four barrel on the car, which made it really fast on the open road, but a little awkward around town for me (which is the reason I converted it to HVs). The engine has a custom exhaust that extends to the cutout in the Porsche body so that it looks stock. The transaxle is a Porsche 901 five speed.
The interior is okay, but not stock. Seats are out of a Nissan on custom frames. The rear seats have been deleted. The steering wheel is a wood Nardi.
The car comes with a ton of spare parts: Porsche seats, Porsche steering wheel, short shifter with shift knob, another stock Porsche shifter, shift bushings, windshield and backlight gaskets, trunk weather stripping, rear engine cover supports, three steel wheels, white headliner, replacement sun visors, manuals, and more.
The car is fun to drive and overall runs pretty good. You can treat the car as either a running driver that you can patch occasionally or you can treat it as a major project and completely restore it. Completely restored, Porsche 912s are in the 20k - 30k price range.
To RMC members and the Pike Peak club I am offering my Porvair at $4,000. If you have any interest, please let me know.
Regards,
Joe White
