Hello All,

Last note from me on the car show tomorrow morning. See you all there at the Panera Bread between 6 - 6:15am (address is below).

For those early travelers out of Castle Rock and points North, we'll be meeting up at the Castle Rock Safeway, in the south part of town, off of Plum Creek Parkway around 5, with a take off time of 5:15 so we make it to the Springs in plenty of time to meet up with all of the other folks.

Safe driving, and bring a smile! Too often we hear; "oh, you don't see many Corvairs running around anymore". Well, that's because we hold Tri-States out of town and our local car folks don't get to see us in a big group. Here's the opportunity, so let's get up early, drink some coffee, and have some fun!

See you there,

Ed

Subject: Time to Rally the Troops and Promote the Corvair!! 1st Saturday Car Show in the Springs - September 2nd - Pike Peak Corvair Club Are Show Hosts!!

Hello PPCC Crew and Fellow Corvair Enthusiasts!

Following up on my earlier note from last month, we're now a little over 2 weeks away from hosting the September 2nd, 1st Saturday Car Show.

Lots of info in this email that you'll need, so please read it all. There will be a quiz at the end :)

As most Corvair owners know, October 2nd is "Corvair Heritage Day", celebrating the day that the Corvair was first introduced to the public in 1959. While the Club was unable to secure that day for our 1st Saturday Car Show Hosting opportunity, we did get close, so let's make sure we get all available running Corvairs, and Corvair powered vehicles, out to the show for the public, and each other, to enjoy.

As car shows go, this is a short one, running from 8 - 10 am, and it is FREE. Since the event is professionally organized, our hosting responsibilities are limited to providing about 8 volunteers to help with parking and parking lot management. They've asked us to show up around 6:15am to get ourselves parked and situated, and then we can help out the other folks as they begin showing up.

To facilitate us all driving in together, let's plan on gathering everyone between 6 - 6:15am in the Panera Bread restaurant parking lot, 3120 New Center Point, Colorado Springs, CO 80922, which is l ocated in the First & Main Town Center, just to the left of the car show area. They open at 6am, so plenty of time to get a coffee or breakfast sandwich before we head out.

Directions to the Panera Bread and the show area are pretty simple;

* From points North, you're going to take I-25 south to either the Interquest or Briargate exit (your choice), head east until you hit the CO-21 (Powers Blvd) interchange. Take CO-21 south (about 6.4 miles) until you come to South Carefree Circle. Turn left, go around the traffic circle, and you'll see the Panera Bread.

* From points South, take I-25 North to exit 135, toward Airport, and m erge onto S Academy Blvd. In 1.5 miles, t ake the exit toward Milton E. Proby Pkwy. Continue on that road until you see signs for CO-21 (Powers). Use the left 2 lanes to turn left onto CO-21 N and follow Powers right on up to South Carefree Circle. Make a right, go around the circle and you'll see the Panera Bread

As I had mentioned below, o ur Club goal is to have 25 cars on display! That's right, 25, so that means that every single one of you, from our regular meeting and event attendees, to our as-available members who have busy busy lives (we all understand that), to our friends in the RMC up north, to prospective, as well as former members, and those members whom we may have never met or seen at an event (you know who you are) :) we all need to have this on your calendars, so we can make it a huge success.

Randy Karl has built a display frame for us to hang up our Club Banner, so we will be flying it proudly, encouraging the attendees and visitors to come on over, check us out, and share their "Corvair Stories". I'll have plenty of business cards on hand for folks to hand out, as well as membership applications. Since our Club Membership dues are only $12.50 for the remainder of 2017, there's an opportunity here to increase membership in the PPCC through engaged conversation and technical consultation with the classic car hobbyist. Everybody knows someone who has a Corvair sitting in a garage or a barn somewhere. Our goal is to get the folks interested in putting it back on the road. We, as a Club, are a great resource for that kind of information, and we need to let folks that we're here to help with their projects.

For more information on what to expect of the show, take a look at the below email string, or check out their website @ http://www.firstandmaintowncenter.com/8th-annual-first-saturdays-car-show

Please hit Reply right now (don't delay), and confirm the below once more. For those not yet on the below list, please let me know that you are planning to bring your car(s), how many you're bringing, and what year & model.

As of today, from my notes, I have commitments from:

Halpin - 2 cars - 60 Coupe and 67 Sedan
Feasel - 1 car - 65 Convertible
Rowinski - 1 car - 63 Coupe
Lawler - 1 car - 66 Convertible
Kimberly - 1 car - 64 Convertible
Anderson - 1 car (maybe 2) - 65 Coupe
Beets - 1 car - 64 Convertible
Carty - 1 car - 64 Convertible
Edwards - 1 car - 62 Convertible
Frantz - 1 car - 64 Convertible
Green - 1 car (maybe 2) - 68 Coupe
Karl - 1 car - 68 Coupe
Levin - 1 car - 66 Coupe
Piper - 1 car (maybe 2) - 65 Convertible
Russert - 2 cars - Early Coupes
Schick - 1 car (maybe 2) - Early Sedan
Schifftner - 1 car - 64 Convertible

That's 19 vehicles so far, which is impressive! Le's find those other 6 vehicles hiding out there, just waiting to be shown.

For those members that I don't hear from in the next couple days, one way or the other, I'll be calling you :)

Thanks for the support and working to make this a great day for the Corvair Club!!

August 5th First Saturdays Car Show

Calling all car aficionados in Colorado! The 8th First Saturdays Car Show begins this Saturday, August 5th . The car shows run from May to October on the first Saturday of each month. Staging is from 7-8am and the show is from 8-10am. Our host for this month is the Jaguar Club of Southern Colorado

There is no registration fee for cars to show and attendance is free as well! We typically exceed our limit of 300 cars so we have listed a few guidelines for entering the show below.

Car Show Guidelines
Dealer and other promotional cars: We encourage these cards to arrive at or after the 8am set-up end time to defer parking in the main show area for privately owned car show entries.

All cars: To make parking/set-up as streamlined as possible, please park to the far right (north) area of the parking lot if your car was built after 1990. Cars older than 1990 are to park in the far west (towards Powers) and south sections of the parking lot. The host club area is marked and reserved for members of the Host Club Only!

Fooood!
We will have Chick-Fil-A serving food and beverages at the event. Please bring cash for all food purchases.

We are excited to see all of the amazing vehicles that have been coming to the past car shows, as well as some exciting new entries!

Weather Forecast
Saturday's forecast says a high of 85 degrees with partly cloudy skies, but Colorado weather patterns can change a lot between now and Saturday- so be prepared with an umbrella just in case!

Subject: 1st Saturday Car Show in the Springs - Thanks for coming and check out our upcoming show on August 5!

Ok PPCC, One and All!!

We're two months out from the September 2nd, 1st Saturday Car Show that we will be hosting down in the Springs.

I will be communication details of the event as I have them, and as we get closer, but I'm working hard to ensure that the only thing most of us/you will have to do is to bring out a bright shiny Corvair. Minimal volunteers are needed for the event, so no excuses, ok? And, it's FREE!!

Our Club goal is to have 25 cars on display! That's right, I said 25, so that means that every single one of you, from our regular meeting and event attendees, to our once in a blue moon members who have busy busy lives (we all understand that), to those folks that we have never met or seen at an event (you know who you are) :) you all need to put it on your calendars (it's 2 months out - no excuses), and plan on making this a priority.

I just returned form the CORSA convention out in Independence, MO, and there were a lot of discussions about what CORSA does for the hobby, and how they continue to promote the Corvair, as a marquee. While CORSA is doing all that great stuff, at a national level, it is the local clubs that really drive engagement with the auto hobby enthusiast. If you've ever been to a car show, you know everybody has "A Corvair Story". Well, the PPCC is the most active Corvair Club in Colorado, bar none. We are out and about at virtually every car show and event, displaying our Club pride and chatting with folks about not only the hobby, but the inclusiveness of our group. No "Stock Snobs" here, just folks that have an appreciation for the car, and those folks who continue to enjoy it, some 50+ years later.

Ok, that's my pitch, and you can expect a call from me at some point over the next month to check in, find out what needs to be done to help you get your ride ready for the show, and to secure that commitment of attendance.

Let's make sure that the Jaguar and Porsche folks understand that after 40 years, we're still standing, and ready to play!!

Ed
