Great edition! Thanks to all contributors
Actually, I was standing at the Chevrolet dealer's showroom in Lincoln, NE on Oct 2nd 1959.We had just returned from Saudi Arabia and the family did not have a car yet.
Mother Nellie wanted the new Corvair, but Father opted for a '59 leftover black Bel Air two door which became my first car.. Dad did acquire Mom's Corvair EM 4 door for groceries.. a couple of years later.
Dale Neilsen's EFI article is great! I became aware of fuel injection adaptation at the Albq. NM CORSA national convention. The FI tech session was given by a gentleman who had adapted 2 Renault TBI systems to the Corvair... Fast forward: I have been driving port FI Binion Corvairs for 24 years. Drove one to the '99 Tahoe National and managed to achieve 30+ MPG on the trip.. Probably would have done better except I was trying to keep up on westbound HWY 50 with Steve Goodman and I ran 96 MPH on I 80 chasing Tony Fiore eastbound for a couple of hours. Later that summer I drove that same FI Corvair round trip for BU class reunion.
Corvairs are great cars and always will be!
