We’re not able to attend Jerry’s service tomorrow due to a long-planned commitment, so I’ll pitch this to you via e-mail:  I highly recommend converting to a dual MC rather than simply replacing a faulty single piston MC, if (as I suspect) that’s what’s in your car. Clarks sells dual MC kits for both earlies and lates, and it only takes an hour or two to make the simple conversion. It doubles your braking security, which is why singles were outlawed on new cars after 1966.

 

Good to learn you and the car both made it home undamaged.

Hello Marcus: sounds that the master cylinder is faulty.   NAPA used to keep brand new master cylinders here in town but I haven't tried to buy one in several years.  Good luck and glad you made it home safe.

Hello to all,

After hanging out with Larry Yoder last eve at the Longmont Sonic meet up I had a complete loss of brakes while driving home. I was halfway home when I stepped on the brake approaching a light and noticed the pedal seemed to travel about an inch further than normal. By the next two stops the pedal was to the floor. I limped it home on back roads by shifting down, limping up to lights and stop signs, timing green lights, and using the parking brake. When home I looked under the car and did not see fluid leak at any of the wheels or brake lines, no leaks at the interior firewall at the master, no leaks in the trunk at the master, and the master still had 3/4 full fluid. Would you suspect a failed master cylinder? I'm looking for an easy fix, that I assume is not likely, as I had hoped/planned to drive my car to Jerry's service tomorrow.
