Some points to consider. First thing is know the current "customer" and consider the future "customer". The current customer are mostly folks who grew up with the Corvair. Some see a connection with our youth. Most are male. The females are less interested in greasy car parts and more interested in socializing. Many current customers are or were wrench turners but I guess somet are not. Some are technology inquisitive others are not. Most of the current customers are let's face it, old. The future customers in contrast have little if any emotional connection with the Corvair. Indeed some have a social negative cloud hanging over given the Nader issues. Some are interested in a hobby, something to do. Most are on a budget. Future customers likely need to learn of the "how-to do's" and gain confidence, our at least get the will to at try. I think current and future both want to feel that in RMC they are welcome and belong, whether regular meeting attendees or participants from a distance.
I think the focus should be on the future customers and a transition of knowledge from the current to the future. I think we need a blend of activities for all.
I think we need to establish, some place and some how, for quarterly "hands on" tech sessions for the potential future wrench turners. We need, if possible, a gathering point (a garage?) for tech activities. We ned to offer food and drinks for those events. I think we need to highlight the picnic and holiday party as a social events. I think we need, if someone is interested, a section from time to time in the newsletter and/or website for content produced (or at least inspired) by women in the club. And critically, I think we need events targeted for both the current and future members.
While in NJ, which benefits from possible activities nearby, we often went to non-Corvair historical sites. We visited government sites. We could have, if interested, the folks "up north" have at least once a year visit (with our Corvairs) to a purely interesting place of interest, historic or otherwise. Maybe even a ranch.Perhaps just an interesting place to gather, maybe eat, and socialize. Doesn't matter if RMC has been there before. And we must attend. Perhaps offer an incentive out of our treasury for those who attend, maybe even just gas money.
I think we need a session just on the history of RMC for the newbies. I had heard that RMC and PPCC were great clubs before I came out here. I knew of Steve Goodman. Perhaps such knowledge made available will encourage participation.
Anyway, points to consider.
