<div dir='auto'>Corvair gas tanks.....hmm that reminds me of a funny story it starts out with a gas tank cleaning and then attempted repair by my Dad when restoring my '64 Spyder convt. <div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">Dad took the Spyder down to the gas station to fill it up, well it sprung a pin hole leak and then a leak from the little L shaped piece on the outside of the tank. It leaked about 10 gallons of gas out on the ground and that's about the time the fire department trucks and ensemble showed up in a hurry!! The mess was cleaned up and Dad returned home with the Spyder on a flatbed tow truck and his story.</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">Being the good Dad that he was and trying to save me some $$...." it's only money spend it like you got it" as said by Ray...wasn't instilled in me quite yet at the time being new to RMC. Dad said he wanted to clean the tank out anyway..like Steve mentioned acid etc...yikes my eyes were wide " oh okay Dad". After cleaning was done to the tank and my Dad then being an excellent welder he thought "I might as well just fix it" he'd fill it with water and weld the L shaped piece etc...again my eyes wide with "oh okay Dad". Things went well until they didn't!</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">The gas tank shot straight up in the air about 20 feet, careened across the street and landed in the neighbors front yard!! Thankfully the fire department was not needed a second time! My Dad and I were the only witnesses and he just said "well that was not how that was supposed to go and we are not going to tell your mother". I said okay and good!</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">Dad did a smart thing and called Steve...who told him that was a dumb thing to do with a tank. He gave us a club member's phone#, a man named Orville Stevens....he had tanks. We got a tank from him $70 I think and it looked brand new. We just grinned and happily went home with a new tank and a secret. </div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">I did not mention that story to my Mom until probably 20 years after the fact her expression was priceless.</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">I figured a good story to share fittingly with the Joan & Dale Wilshire Rmc memorial picnic coming up.</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">I don't have a spare tank!</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">Happy Corvairing!</div><div dir="auto"><br><div data-smartmail="gmail_signature" dir="auto">Laura</div></div></div><div class="gmail_extra"><br><div class="gmail_quote">On Jul 28, 2021 7:22 PM, Howard Steward via RMC-List <rmc-list@corvair.org> wrote:<br type="attribution" /><blockquote class="quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex"><div><div style="font-family:'helvetica neue' , 'helvetica' , 'arial' , sans-serif;font-size:13px"><div>Received, thank you. </div><div></div>
