Maybe, but there is nothing in the dealer a/c installation instructions 
which mentions cardboard around the condenser.

Hi Larry,

Yes, I agree with you, too.Just doesn't seem like a factory restoration. It
just seems really weird that there are others who saw them and it does not
make sense that they would be there. Material was similiar to glovebox board
material and around the same dary gray color from what I remember.

Could be some aftermarket brainchild or something, just like you said.

hi all
i 'm not doubting what you and rich saw with your own eyes, i'm wondering
though if these were factory installations.
 the lack of any documentation in parts books/assembly manuals makes me very
suspicious.
