[SCG] Re: <Air-Vair> A/C top shrouds

I can confirm that my Feb 66 built Corsa with Factory Air has the fresh air
hose on the right side. If this is true of all the Corsa's and Monza's to
that build date then if the changeover was made it would have been after
that date.

Greg,

If what you say is correct, then why do the factory instructions for
installing A/C into a 1966 car indicate the fresh air hose on the RIGHT side
of the car? This is true for both the Factory installations (per 1966
Assembly manual - page C64) AND for dealer installations (per Dealer A/C
installation manual -page 103) ??

I, too, have wondered about the different shrouds. I know the fresh air
outlet was located on the LEFT for the LM turbo engines, and for some LM A/C
engines, but not sure for which dates and/or places of manufacture.

For that matter, since most LM cars have the vacuum balance tube bent to
allow the placement of the fresh air hose on either side, I have wondered
why GM went to the bother of making two different top shrouds; why not just
make them all with left hand hose outlets? Seems like it would have saved
them money.

I am copying this to the Stock Corvair Group for further commentary.

You didn't mention the year. Starting in '66 the air outlet moved to the
left side to clear the condenser that covers the air plenum. The air inlet
on the right is correct for the earlier cars, the inlet on the left is
correct for the '66-67 cars.

I have two A/C cars, a 110 and a 140.

The fresh air outlet on the 140 leaves the shroud on the left side, and the
same outlet on the 110 leaves the shroud on the right. Why the difference,
or did someone swap things on me.

Thanks Bob Bauer
