Stock QuestionThis is a good time to bring up this subject. One thing we want to do with the SCG is develop an extensive photo database. We haven't yet purchased the software (that is coming soon) but we have located server space to house the data. For now, this SCG mailing list does allow the posting of attachments, so if anybody has pictures they want to post of this or other subjects of discussion, please do so.

Thank you,

  Good afternoon SCGers:

This is an unbelievably timely thread as I am looking for these grilles to complement my recently acquired multiplex adapter.

The folks at Clark's do have several guides for this stuff. Their PN C10097 has a template for locating the speakers in the doors.
PN C10096 has a pattern for fabbing an attach bracket for the multiplex unit. Each one of those guides will set you back a $1.50.

And for those of you who have the January 2006 issue of Automobile, there is a picture on page 90 of a Corvair interior that clearly shows a door with the speaker grille.

I hope some of this is helpful to someone.

Well, I ordered one but I don't have an original to compare it to. So, I'll try to compare it next time I am at a show. However, if they look the same to Larry, I think that is quite an endorsement! I presume they were painted to match the foundation, right? Would dealer installed usually come with a black grille? The one I vaguely remember was in a '68 and it was painted the color of the foundation but also appeared to be dealer installed because instead of using the "riser" card, they pounded the sheet metal below the speaker enough so it fit flush (ouch!).

The part that was really interesting is they also have the front speaker grilles for a Camaro. They look quite similar to my fuzzy remembrance of the Corvair grille. Not cheap, but when was the last time you saw any (assuming these are the same)?

        Bill,

I don't know if the Stock group takes questions, but I have an obscure one that I will ask anyway.

Is the rear speaker grille for a '66 Corvair the same as a '67 Camaro? The reason I ask is I am putting in a rear speaker using the repo foundation from Clark's and need a grille. None of the Corvair vendors sell them (as far as I can tell). I've not managed to snag one at a flea market over the years (I have a few '65's, no '66s) and the repo the Camaro vendors sell looks to me just like the Corvair grille. I was going to fire an email off to the Corvair vendors suggesting they look into carrying the Camaro grille - if it really is the same. So, do you know if it is the same? Did the '66 and '67 Corvair use the same grille (which means there is a much better chance the Camaro part would be the same)?

Here is a link to the Camaro grille

        Thanks,
