Hi John,
On the 110 cars with single exhaust, they were clamped together as far I
have seen or in the assembly manuals. As long as you use either GM
replacement or exact reproduction exhaust (muffler, pipes, tailpipe in the
correct installation angle and placement) you can stay in FSR class. No
"jet hot coatings" etc. The clamps have changed alot from the GM style
available at the time from the factory and the replacement they offered for
a while. but my interpretation of the concours rules says that the clamps
can be 'stock appearing' as current clamps available through Clark's or
parts stores are close to the original clamp design. The old clamp style
did not not maintain a good hold between parts because the bottom bridge
was a single contact point of metal wheras today's clamps are bent in a way
that the bridge has two metal contact points with the pipes and muffler
ends once you screw them tight.
I have the GM originals on my Spyder aexhaust system and soon to be
finished '64 500 coupe. They look great, but the sealing they provide is OK
at best. Besides, they are a son of gun to find. Took me forever to get
them.
GM replacement mufflers will have the part number stamped in the body as
well as a black paint stencil with the part number (I have seen this
sometimes) on the output end of the muffler for 95/110 HP engines. This is
on the flat end near the outlet for the tailpipe.
Best Regards,
Rich

I have a question for the stock group, hope you can help. On a
65 Monza Coupe 110 HP Was the winter summer cover used on all engines or
just the 140 and 180 HP engines? Also was the original exhaust system
welded together? And if so do you know if you would be taken out of
factory stock restored if you put on NOS exhaust parts clamped together.
