[SCG] SCG Donations

In general I agree-the CPF is the best place for physical artifacts while
the SCG should manipulate/store/make available electronic copies of anything
we can get our hands on.

Dues ($10/yr) or Donations may be sent to:

Mark Corbin, SCG Treasurer

5474 SR 19

Galion, OH 44833

We have never formally discussed the issue of physical property. Frankly, I
would prefer that the Corvair Preservation Foundation be given right of
first refusal for any donations of Physical Items of a historical nature, as
they are better set up to handle such items.

SCG is more about collecting information. Now in the case of books, chip
cards, etc. I think we want to have access to the information - I am
thinking we will probably scan such information so it can be accessed as
needed for research, although we may need to get a legal opinion about that
in the case of copyrighted material? For the moment, I am asking that all
SCG members and interested parties inventory their collections of original
material (cars, books, ads, etc.) and when possible, submit those
inventories to SCG so we at least know where to find the information when we
are looking for it. At some point, whenever we have the database on-line
and all our systems set up, we need to figure out how to get it into the
database. As always, I am open to suggestions.

Bill

Bill,

Thank you to you and Mark for your dedicated work in bringing the Stock
Corvair Group to life. I will commit to a donation of $30 to help get the
treasury off the ground and will commit more in the future if needed. This
is an important group and I think the time is long overdue to develop a
central data bank of stock information. We lose more information every day
with the aging of the folks who were there and lived the Corvair as it was
designed and built. I myself am amazed at how much I have forgotten over the
years.

If there is something else I can do to help, please let me know. Do I send
the donation to Mark made out to SCG? Also, is there a central "library" of
sorts for donation of physical items, such as books and chip cards and so
forth? I am sure I can find some things to pass on. What type of things
would we want to retain for the SCG as opposed to material to donate to the
CORSA museum?

Vairingly,

Bob Johnston (BobJ)

Frostbite Falls, MN

CORSA since 72

62 Monza Sedan, A/C, Brocade bench seat interior (inspired by Alice)

63 500 coupe all original 1 option car complete with Missouri mud and rust

63 Spyder Convert owned since '74
