I think that was due to a late decision not to offer the gas heater as a dealer installed kit for 62.

It is interesting that they stopped the gas heater in 1962 but did not bother changing the trunk until 1963; I am referring to the removal of the hole in the right rear corner of the trunk.

Sorry I didn't jump in earlier but thought you guys would have figured it out by now. 
Here's the heater availability info you need:
Cars:
1960: Gas Heater available as factory installed option or dealer installed accessory kit
1961: Gas Heater available dealer installed only.
           Direct Air Heater available factory intalled or as a dealer installed kit
1962: Air Heater now standard equipment unless heater deletion option specified.
           No Gas Heater available (although a leftover 1961 accessory kit could be fitted if air heater delete was  ordered but wouldn't be stock)
Yes it shows the gas heater in some 62 accessory literature but there was no kit that year.
Trucks: Gas Heater available 1961-1965 as factory installed RPO or dealer installed kit.
             Direct Air Heater available 1961-1965 as factory installed RPO or dealer installed kit.

 For 1962 it wasn't available at all...the direct air heater beame standard equipment that year unless you specified te heater delete RPO 610.
In Greenbriers and trucks, both the direct air heater and gas heater were available 61-65 as either factory installed options or dealer installe accessories (but you couldn't have both on one vehicle!).

I have checked my sales lit. collection and here's what I've found:

1.  The '61 Custom Features brochure (375M-RS37 P&A) lists a  gasoline 
heater as an option.

2.  The '61 sales brochure mentions "2 KINDS OF HEATERS!" and goes on  to 
describe the direct air heater as well as the gasoline heater.   Elsewhere in 
the brochure only the "forced air" heater is described as a  
factory-installed option.

3.  The '62 Custom Features brochure also mentions the gasoline  heater.

4.  The '62 sales brochure lists the gasoline heater under "Options  and 
Custom Features" and goes on to say; "Check with your Chevrolet  dealer."

5.  A later revision of the '62 sales brochure shows no changes in  regard 
to mention of the gasoline heater.

If I may reach a conclusion on the basis of the above, alone, I would  
conclude that the gasoline heater was a dealer only option for '61 and  '62.
