[SCG] Multiplex antenna

Hi,

 

Since the AM/FM multiplex was dealer-installed in '65 & '66 (and '67?), I
expected to see the FM-style whip antenna listed in the '66 multiplex
instructions (available as a reprint from a couple of sources) but didn't
see any mention of it. Cars that already had the AM/FM radio from the
factory (RPO U69) would have had the whip antenna but those with just an AM
radio (RPO U60 or U63) would not. It's hard to believe that customers who
previously had AM radios were supposed to make do with shortening the length
of the multi-section gargantuan AM antenna. Does anyone know the story here?

P.S. Just a bit of trivia that I'm sure most of you know, but the multiplex
was not to be installed in cars with a rear antenna (RPO U73 or U75). I
believe this was due to concerns about signal loss from the extended length
of cable.
