[SCG] <VV> 140 Engine Codes

65 Corsa did not have AC due to the low mount compressor and condenser positions on AC systems hence no 65 RR engine code for 65 Corsas.
In 66 the Corsa came with AC because the condenser was moved allowing the high mount compressor to clear the secondary carb. The RR code denotes the 140 for Corsa with AC, special features of an RR code engine are; 140 fine thread tapped holes for the thermister and snap switch in the heads, the balance tube has a 'T' for the vacuum gauge, the top shroud has the throttle actuator to pull on additional throttle at idle when the AC is on, the throttle shaft has the other parts of the throttle actuator (knurl and bracket), due to being an AC motor there are additional braces behind cylinder head sheet metal to support the compressor mount, the coil is mounted to the body, the spacers under the cylinder barrels are thicker to slightly reduce compression, the distributor has a different drive gear to move the vacuum advance out of the path of the drive belt for the compressor and there is an additional pulley bolted to the inner hub of the harmonic balancer. Because of the additional pulley a 90 degree oil filter adapter had to be added.
Oh, and the location of the fresh air feed from the top of fan shroud was forced back to the right hand side plus the voltage regulator was turned at an angle off horizontal to clear the condenser.
If you have a 66 Corsa with dealer installed AC the kit installation details may have changed slightly depending on how through the installation mechanic was. Dealer installed AC had saw cut bodywork while factory AC cars had torch cut body work plus the letter code for AC in the body tag.
If you are really interested in AC installation buy the copies of the GM accessory installation pages Clark's sell.

You're right.  RR is for a '66 Corsa 140 with A/C.  All Corsa models were either 3 or 4 speed manual transmissions.  The data I initially cited came from Clark's 1999-2000 catalog and does not delineate the difference between RR and RB. The CORSA Technical Guide does not list the RR code for 1965.  Was A/C (RPO C64) available on a '65 Corsa?  Bob, what does your database indicate?

FYI,
The best code reference is in my book, THE CLASSIC CORVAIR. It is the most complete and accurate of any.

Not quite.  The RR code is for a Corsa with air conditioning.  Non-A/C Corsa code is RB.

The best code reference I'm aware of is in the CORSA Tech Guide.

To JVR - AFAIK, the cases are all the same other than the FC, the code just tells you what it was coming out of of Tonawanda as a completed engine.
