As to why they did what they did with the regulator stop, they sometimes
find that what looks good in development just doesn't pan out like they
wanted or expected. So they have to change or improve it. Simple as that.
It could be that they found that some people have a tendency to really
crank the window down really hard. So they had to add/beef up something so
that the gorillas wouldn't accidentally destroy their window mechanism.

I've found that anything that the designers can design, some nimrod is
going to figure out a way of abusing or destroying it. And Americans seem
to be notorious at abusing and destroying their cars. Then blame it on the
car. Shades of "Did I do that?!" LOL
