All,

The SCG meeting at the 2016 CORSA convention was held with myself conducting the meeting. There was about 15-20 people present, and a good discussion transpired.

What we are sorely lacking is organization and planning in connection with CORSA and the convention committee. This showed up in the fact that we did not have a list of those who signed up on the convention registration form for the evaluation event, and when we did get a list, we didn’t have the information on what kind of vehicle they were registering. The evaluation form packets are specific to the kind of car to be evaluated, so we had to make up the packets on the hotel business machinery the morning of the evaluation (Saturday). This lead to a delay in getting started, something that cost us valuable time, as each evaluation takes considerable time to perform.

To eliminate this problem, I have been in touch with Harry in the CORSA office. We are working on being able to have the participant receive the packet along with their convention materials which they receive at the convention registration desk. I have prepared the five distinct variations of documents in separate files, and these will be in PDF files on the CORSA computer database. From there, they can be printed out as needed, and we (SCG) won’t have to furnish them. This should also make it possible to get them printed out at the convention when needed, for last minute entrants.

At the meeting, there were also some good suggestions made as to expanding our evaluations. It was suggested that the forms be made available to local clubs so that it would be possible for the local club to use them for a club activity on some meeting night. It was also suggested that the forms be made available to individuals, should someone desire to perform their own evaluation of their vehicle. It was noted that someone who was very knowledgeable about the specific car would need to be present in order to obtain accurate and meaningful data, which could dampen the effectiveness of this kind of activity. However, there is an opportunity here that we need to investigate.

The evaluation took place during the car display event, and after getting organized, with the aid of several other volunteers, we were able to examine a number of cars, even at least one last minute entrant. I finished the day with just two forms in hand. The other forms should be turned over to me.

Some of the cars we examined were a ’69 coupe, a ’62 wagon, and a ’67 4 door. This is an improvement from last year, when we missed several cars due to a variety of logistical and organizational issues. Hopefully, with the aid of eager volunteers like we had this year, we will continue to improve in our organization and efficiency. Our aim should be to be as efficient as the concours event.
