The site selection committee had a great day time Sunday. We went and checked out the proposed site for a March event of the SECC. I’ll let one of the others tell you about the facility and what it has to offer us.

Afterwards we got together to talk a few things out concerning the SECC and it’s organization. As you know we had a very loose arrangement last year in order to kick start us as a group. Initially we went into the SECC thinking we had to have all the Florida Chapters involved in order to be successful. Well, not all members of clubs are into moving events, so we thought why have this be a your in or out type deal.

So the site committee, who also happens to be the founders of the SECC concept thought it would be better to have this be an individual choice whether or not they wanted to be a member of this organization. We also thought rather then this being a “corporation” such as the NECC (Northeast Corvair Council), which would require incorporation and purchasing our own insurance and a host of other items, we thought we would like to make this a Special Interest Chapter of CORSA, instead. We will welcome any and all CORSA members to be part of our Chapter. We are going to make a requirement that this Chapter will be 100% CORSA compliant. This doesn’t mean if you aren’t a member of CORSA you can’t come and participate in any of our events.

So in order to get things moving, we thought $10 a year for a family membership was a good start. We will have our first organizational meeting at the Central Florida Corvair show in St. Augustine on 11/15 at 2:00pm in the hospitality room. Anyone who is interested in joining, please plan on attending. If you are unable to attend this meeting and still want to be an active member of this Special Interest Chapter then please e-mail me

The next email you get from me will be what is required of us as a group to be a Special Interest Chapter of CORSA. Because this is a Special Interest group, the requirements aren’t as stringent as a regular chapter. Norm Wright and Ed Meadows have volunteered to write up a set of proposed bylaws for us to be governed by and will have them in November for us to vote on. Once that happens, we will send our request into CORSA and we will have Chapter status.

At this point the provisional executive board of SECC is as follows:

President: Norm Wright
V. President: Terry Denk
Secretary: Sarah Jones
Treasurer: Tony Fiore
Event Chair: Ed Meadows
Site Chair: Gene Barr

If you want to join please send $10 to:

Tony Fiore
5549 Tewkesbury Place
Sarasota, FL 34241

Make sure you give him your address and email address so we can keep the records up to date.

Any questions, please feel free to contact me. We looking forward to seeing any and all who are interested or just want to be apart of this up and coming Chapter of CORSA.
