First, I wnated to let everyone know that everything is getting back to
normal here in Port Charlotte. My house was probably the least damaged in
this neighborhood. Storm shutters really work. On thursday we got
electricity turned back on. FP&L had 5,000 people working in Charlotte
County since the area here by the Peace River had over 90% of the power
poles broken off. A warm shower and refrigeration are the most civilizing
influences known to mankind.
[<Barry>] Glad all is well.
My Corvair only recieved some scratches.
Now to business. What exactly is a time trial? Is it one car at a time on
a race course or something else?
[<Barry>] Close. During the "open practice" sessions, yes, there are other
cars on the track, and the faster cars are allowed to pass in certain areas.
But, everyone's very careful not to damage these 40 yr old cars. Concept is
you against the clock during the actual trial. There might be other cars on
the track, but the way the NECC ran it, they staggered the starts, by 30, or
45 secs or so, so that there was NO POSSIBLE way that one car would be
slowed down by another. No passing allowed.
I am willing to participate in almost anything except wheel to wheel
racing.[<Barry>] During the open sessions, it's not far from that, but you
can back off, and stay away from a group pretty easily...just let the fast
cars pass during the early part of the straights, and you can pretty much go
at it full throttle, cause they'll leave you sitting, as they did me, my
first time.
