Hey all:<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Last night I had a chance to talk to "Fast Eddie" concerning the Time Trials we would like to host at Roebling Road before the '09 Convention. Earlier today I got with our esteemed President, Donnie Bird, to go over all of this before we sent this email.
Here is what I know so far. If I get anything wrong I'm sure Eddie can correct it. Remember if you want to respond to the group, hit "reply to all". This way we can get discussion going.
Fast Eddie met with the owners/care takers of the track who actually live onsite. Ed asked about the July '09 date. The couple hesitated and looked at each other and said will we be here then or are we retiring? They both agreed oh yeah, '09 is our last year.
They have not started the schedule for '09 at this point but assured "Fast Eddie" that the Monday date in July they saw no problem with.
The cost to rent the track will be $3200 for the day. "Fast Eddie", Donnie and myself feel this is VERY reasonable and doable. Most time trials cost about $100 - $150 per participant to run.
Ed is going to get with the Buckner County SCCA (I think that is the county name) to inquire about them timing the event and what they require out of us. Even though Central Florida has timing equipment, we need the timing equipment that will put a transponder onto the car itself.
As for the insurance, from the conversation Ed had with the couple, he believes CORSA insurance will cover the event. However, he will get more information and then get with Harry Jensen. The local SCCA may have the needed insurance as well since that is their home track.
What about the involvement of the NECC? "Fast Eddie", Donnie, and I all agree that the SECC has matured enough and continues to mature with the addition of new members as well as the seasoned professionals we have amongst us to host this event on our own. We would like to make our first official SECC Time Trial.
We are not saying that we don't welcome the help and guidance of the NECC, but at sometime we have to step out and take a chance on our own. If we end up needing help, we will not hesitate to ask NECC to step in and help.
So what are all your thoughts on this? Pretty exciting, don't you think?
Sarah
