Ryan-
The original Crown covers were made of fiberglass and left the insulation up
to the owner.

I have a streetrod and made a firewall out of a specialty piece of plywood.
It is plywood that is made with a thin sheet of alumnium on both sides. It
is about one inch thick. The aluminum reflects heat away and the one inch of
wood insulates pretty well. Even with the engine compartment hot you can't
feel any heat on the other side. My father got the plywood at work (in 1976)
but I don't know where you could find it now.

If you go with the original style fiberglass I would recommend some rigid
foam on the "cool" side of the f-glass. There are also various bubblewrap
style insulators available with aluminum foil on both sides. There is also a
heating boiler insulation that is similar to a flexible rubber but I think
that doesn't work as well as the others.
                                                       Ed
