Ryan-

My first question of prospective V8 Corvair owners is: How tall are
you? If you're over 6 foot or long legged, you won't be comfortable
in a traditional Crown car (unless you cut in additional leg room).
That leaves the Kemark as the other traditional choice, which I don't
believe is a sound engineering design - it eats ring and pinion
gearsets.

The second question I ask is: How good are your fabrication skills?
There is a lot more to a mid engined car than just bolting parts
together. Once you get started on the project, it will get feature
creep, and you'll find yourself doing lots more than you had planned.

If I was going to start from scratch, I'd try something a little
different, like a small V8 or V6 coupled to an Audi transaxle. You
can get some engine adapters for the Audi from Kennedy Engineered
Parts in California http://www.kennedyeng.com/
A turbo V6 will make plenty of power, and should be a little easier on
the transaxle than a grunt motor. You will have to adapt driveshafts
and build a carrier for the transaxle, but you will have plenty of leg
room and something a little newer and different.

It is, of course, easiest to just find one, buy it, and enjoy it. :P
