How about something simple ..... too much spark retard ..... ..... or way
way too rich .. ( cooling by excess gasoline .. ) .....

On my marginal one, I tried running without * any * thermostat , and it ran
cooler, but I didn't like the idea of the 1/2 hour to warm up (g) ; I feel
that 90% of engine wear comes in the warm-ups.
