Since you say your front bar is original, might be a great idea to inspect
and replace the bushings etc in the front bar ... if you run a car with " no
effective" front bar and a hooked up rear bar... yep, it will probably try
to buck you off ....
or you might enter a " drifting " competition ... they have more pit bunnies
...
***********
If your rear bar is working correctly, you can unhook just one side while
you get your front bar adjusted to give you a bit of understeer, then start
adjusting the rear bar to " balance: the car.

Also, while you have the front * and * the rear bars unhooked, weigh each of
your car corners at the wheels ( with you the driver in the seat ) and see
if the car is close in the first place. ( left to right... a vair will be
heavy in the back, usually even the crown types ) .... if left to right isnt
even to start with, the bars can drive you crazy trying to balance the car.
Theoretically the same, but actually not as good as having the weight
balance in the first place.

*********
If the rear verticle links are threaded, you can adjust the bar system for
pre-load, but this is not nearly so good as a scheme to adjust the "
torsion" or spring rate of the system.

As a guess, it doesnt sound as if the 7/8 diameter rear bar is the problem
so much as not an effective balancing front bar ... or perhaps the rear bar
binds up suddenly, in which case you would have a n infinitly stiff bar,
which would be sudden skitter to the max ...
********
Just some thoughts, free and worth every penny ..
