Other transmissions of that era also have 27 spline outputs and would fit similarly (TH 400 is an exception).  The Muncie 4-speed would be stronger, the problem is that reverse gear is in the extension housing, but perhaps the housing could be cut off at some point and welded to a flat plate adapter that would bolt to the C5 rear.  Wow, I like the possibilities!
