Thanks Ken,

I did try to keep all of it clean and also had the bellhousing check for center. I will check to see if there are any problems with the mounts.

Thanks again,

Jerry

??? There are a few things that I have seen people do that will cause clutch
chatter or brake problems in general when they replace these items. I see so
many people not take care to keep things clean, especially the friction
surfaces. I see mechanics and do it yourselfers so many times pick up brake
shoes/pads and drums/rotors with their dirty greasy hands and never clean the
surface. With clutch discs and brake shoes the damage is already done when you
do this as the lining cannot be effectively cleaned.
??? I know what you are going to say, that you kept everything clean, but, even
a finger print on a flywheel will cause a hard spot and chatter. Even the
smallest of debris between the flywheel and the crank will make things wobble
just enough to cause chatter.
??? One other thing to look for is, do you have anything loose or worn like the
mounts. Also you need to make sure that you have the bellhousing centered on the
engine if you took it off, even if you didn't check anyway. The only way to do
this effectively is to use a dial indicator from the flywheel to the
bellhousing. This will do two things, it will make sure that the clutch disc is
not off center, that will cause chatter, and also keep your main shaft lined up
so you don't take out the clutch gear bearings and ruin the main shaft.

Hi all,

I replaced the pressure plate, disc, throwout bearing, roller pilot bearing and
had the flywheel resurfaced in my 66 Crown Conversion and the clutch still
chatters. Has anyone experienced excessive clutch chatter with there Crown
Conversions? Can anyone offer any advise on what to look for or do next?

It didn't chatter before I replaced everything and the reason I replaced it all
was that the old throwout bearing went out and the clutch disc was trashed.??
