I have made a sheet steel firewall with a welded up pocket for the 327 
to fit into.  It is insulated on the engine side with foil backed 
insulation.  The Lexan above fits fairly tight against the sides and 
roof.  I only drive the car in the summer with the rear windows down 
and do not get any fumes inside the driver area.  Heat is not excessive 
but seldom drive for over 20 miles in a trip.  If you go this route, I 
would suggest you angle the Lexan  to alleviate oncoming headlights.  
They tend to appear as cars approaching from the rear.
