matt i have a hei distributer in the corvair and have no power at the 
purple
wire


The Purple wire only has power when you turn the ignition key to START. 
 It energizes the solinoid.


HEI  only needs  1 12 volt , keyed source.   You can get that at the 
Main connector.... where the cloth covered wire is.  That is 12 v  
switched
