[V8Vairs] V8 Registry

I'm in. After Russ turned over the operations I emailed Arch to find out
where to send the next years dues, and never heard back. Hope he's doing
better.

Rick if you can make it happen that would be great. I'll kick in $50. How
do I get it to you? Is there a target amount you must have to get it
launched?

To the best of my knowledge, the V8 Registry hasn't charged any dues since
Russ stopped printing a periodic newsletter. How do you folks feel about
each of us kicking in a nominal amount for dues as a place to get
re-started. In my opinion, none of the folks that Arch mentioned - including
Arch, should go without being reimbursed for expenses that benefit each of
us.

Do we have a somewhat recent roster of members? It would be interesting to
see how many of us there are to actually receiving benefits from this
organization.

Beyond that, I will consider throwing in my name to take over the website,
although someone else may come forward who's is better qualified. More
importantly, we all determine how important this "club" is and provide input
accordingly.

All,

I asked Arch how it was going with the registry back in Feb of this year.
The paragraph below was his response. My apologies to Arch if this was
meant to be private. I doubt there has been much development since then,
given his situation. If anyone has time, money, and website development
skills, please come forward. I'm sure Arch would be happy to relinquish the
helm.

"In short (take a deep breath), Russ turned the V8 registry over to me
last year. I assumed control not realizing that Rick Norris and especially
Russ Brandenburg had been putting hundreds and hundreds of dollars out of
their own pockets into the registry every year. Depending on where the
convention is held the cost of the 'Ted Trevor' and 'People's Choice' awards
alone plus shipping can be well over $600 annually. Printing and postage for
the news letter is hundreds of dollars annually as well. The V8 registry has
never been self supporting which is going to have to change. There were
issues with the site which required a complete overhaul. A new host was
necessary which required reformatting as the old site template had become
outdated and unserviceable. A reasonably affordable web designer was located
to update the site. All of this cost money of which I have little as I'd
become disabled in 2008 and am currently living on a fixed income. I dole
out money as I've been able to which as a matter of course is costing more
than expected. The new site was supposed to be up and running the first of
this year (Jan. 1 2012) but the server went down in December and we had to
start over from scratch... And that is what's going on with the V8 registry
to date. ADE"

Once again members of this group stepped up and freely offered their
knowledge gained from years of experience to help a fellow Corvair guy.

The problem turned out to be a deteriorated wire at a terminal. ?When I
lifted it off the post the weight of the terminal was about enough to make
it fall off. ?(I'm sure the electrons had to pass in single file along that
portion of the wire.) ? I also need to remind myself to disconnect the
battery before working on a project such as this and not waiting for sparks
and a fuse to blow before doing so.

Anyway thanks to one and all who took the time to respond.

Paul

Great! Looks like Matt Nall was right on the money in the ballpark with his
post.

Yeah, but the sparks provide light so you can see better to fix it.
