<Has anyone considered trying to adapt the fuel injection from a Subaru
Outback? It is a 3 liter flat 6 engine, but I don't know which way it rotates
but it seems to be a very close layout and size so it may work>

Hi Terry, good thought about the Subaru system. Here are my thoughts:
The system could have good performance while in closed loop and running on
the MAF. For the short time that it is in open loop or limp-home (certain "check
engine light" type codes) it might have some real issues since the Subie
engine has so much more VE; the fuel map would be pretty far off. OK, so let's
try and keep the light off - well, there's the issue. That vehicle has
second-generation OBD II which translates to hundreds and hundreds of possible
performance and/or failure codes including EVAP system performance, electronic
throttle verification, thermostat performance, cam chain stretch, egr performance,
cat performance, crank acceleration/deceleration, and on and on. This is not
to mention any anti-theft device issues. About the only way to adapt an OBD II
system is to pretty much put the whole enchilada (including the engine) into
the vehicle. If you wanted to run some of the Sibie components, you could
backdate to a pre 1995 model - they are a lot less sophisticated; that would work
OK. BTW, other than emissions control, I'm not aware of any benefit to
sequential EFI. There's a lot of room to have fun with EFI for Corvairs but I
wouldn't recommend anything with an OBD II system.
