I owe it to the list to tell, as Paul Harvey says,
"The Rest of the Story," so here it is.

Several months ago I reported to the list that our 64
Monza convert was to be the campaign vehicle in my run
for a city council seat in Zephyrhills, FL. My wife,
Elayne, a professional saxophonist was to sit atop the
back seat and play patriotic tunes and airs as I
toured the town and drummed up votes.

We did all that.

Tuesday was the election. Here in Florida we've gotten
rid of chad-prone paper ballots and have spent
billions on new, high tech, electronic, can't fail
voting machines.

As we were voting I heard my wife arguing with a poll
worker that there was a problem. As we left the
polling place she told me that she had pressed the
"Vote" button too early and had not cast her vote for
me. I told her that if I lost by one vote I would
either divorce her or kill her.

Tuesday night the results began to roll in. I was
ahead, then my lead diminished, then, at the final
tally I saw that I had lost ---- by ONE VOTE.

A recount was held the next day.

Yep, lost by one vote.

The Corvair is just fine, Elayne is still with us, but
is very, very nervous. And, that's the rest of the
story.
