I agree, don't use cork gaskets on anything but wine bottles!
Those who believe that Corvairs don't vapor lock must be really lucky.
Every Corvair I've had in the last 15 years vapor locked. I suspect it's
the crappy gas with all the alcohol and other "government mandated"
additives they put in it.
I remember my Greenbrier vapor locking at the airport in Kansas City when I
went there to pick up Pete Koehler, who flew in for the CORSA convention. I
parked in the garage out of the sun but when we came back and started the
truck, it ran about 100 feet to the cashier and quit. Couldn't get it
started until we pushed it out of the driveway and went to a gas station for
a can of gas to "prime" it with. Another time in Colorado we went up to the
top of a mountain to check out the scenery. Again it wouldn't start so I
loaded the wife and kids inside and coasted down the road for a mile or so
with the engine turning over in gear and the key on until it finally cooled
off and sucked the fuel back thru. Once running it was fine. Since then
and other incidents, I put electric fuel pumps on all my Corvairs. I leave
the mechanical pump in place and just use the electric pump to prime the
carbs and get it running. Then shut off the electric pump and drive on the
mechanical pump.
I think a bypass line like turbo cars have would do the job of circulating
cooler fuel but to me it is easier to put an electric pump on.
