"Working on a PG....engine is a 110. When shifted into drive it engages really hard. Makes a big shudder and slams the car hard. Almost feels like shifting into drive with engine revved
high. Idle is at a good speed though. It only does this about 2/3 of the time when shifting into gear. Also when it does this it shudders as it is shifted from drive to low. Upshifts and downshifts just fine while running down the road, shifts are very smooth....Is it throttle valve adjustment or something else to look at?"

Geoff - others have already suggested motor mounts and modulator and you have already set the idle correctly and checked for the infamous missing e-clip. After checking that the drivetrain is not about to fall out of the car and perhaps replacing the modulator with a known good unit, you are likely looking at needing to replace the torque convertor. In addition to the symptoms that you are experiencing, I have had two pg's that had the following symptom - when I came to a stop, as the pg shifted to low the "bang" would be so hard that the car would actually lurch forward and sometimes the engine would even stall. After replacing the torque convertors on those cars, the symptoms went away. These pg's also were smooth and shifted properly when the car was moving - it was only when stationary or nearly stopped that the symptoms appeared.

Good luck!
