    Right!  Temporary jumper wires are a great idea to localize a problem 
encountered with delivering electric power to various items.  If the device works 
with the temp. wire connected, then you know the problem lies somewhere in 
the stock connection/switch/wiring leading to the device.  If the device doesn't 
work, then you know electric power delivery is NOT the problem.
    This same idea applies in grounding wires too.  Especially in running a 
temp. ground wire for the LM Corvair dash which is the first thing to suspect 
if your gauges are reading weirdly.
