Ah, the infamous Blower bearing dust cap.  Yes, it was a standard item on
very early Corvair blower bearings (1960-62) and is, in fact, mentioned by
Larry Claypool in his "Stock Is..." article in the July 1988 CC.  It was
usually lost or discarded when the very early bearings were replaced, so it
is rarely seen anymore.  I have one such cap and early bearing myself.
