...strut rod? Do you mean swaybar?

Well, if it's the sway bar that's off, you soak the cage nuts with PB
Blaster if they're balky and won't let the strap bolts unscrew without a
fight (they're the things the strap bolts screw into) and let it soak in
for an hour, then spray 'em again if it's still hard to unscrew the strap
bolts. Once things are unstuck, then unscrew the passenger side strap
bolt and almost unscrew the driver side bolt until it's almost out of the
cage nut. Then hit the filler spout neck with a load of WD40 if you
haven't already, to allow the rubber gasket/grommet to pop out. Just push
it down the filler spout, remove it later to put back on from the top.
Don't forget to remove the filler cap. You should have already removed
the sending unit ground wire from the tunnel pan and unplugged the
connector wire from its stud on the sending unit, and of course removed the
small piece of rubber hose from the sending unit outlet fitting. Then you
can remove the remaining bolt and the strap and wiggle the tank down and
out if someone helps with the filler spout nonsense... even if they don't,
you can still get it out, no big terrible deal.
