Got back from the HACOA. I did make it there without hitting any wildlife
bigger than insects. However, I did crack the 90 degree fuel line going into the
driver's side primary carb. Fortunately, there was a FLAPS down the street.
A 12 inch brake line, a little hand bending and we were all set.

We made it to the welcome party and dodged the serious thunder storms.
Saturday there were a few sprinkles, lots of stories about the flooding Friday
night and plenty of clouds. The host hotel and the car show location were both
high and dry. The morning was cool but warmed up nicely. I think there were 30
Corvairs at the show and a few more that just stopped by. The non Corvair
foot traffic was very high.

I helped to set up for the funkana. It was a small simple course that
resulted in lots of fun. Not too many Corvairs competed in the funkana but those
that did made several runs. It evolved into a battle of the Kansas clubs between
MCCA and HACOA. There was lots of fun competition and humorous
entertainment. My co-driver, who will remain nameless, regularly drives a PG, he had some
difficulty finding reverse on my 4 speed.

Saturday night was more socializing. They set up a CD player and TV to show
a collection of club photos over the last 40 years. Those folks have been
having fun with their Corvairs for a long time! The formal program contained the
distribution of door prizes, everything from "Chirping Bird Clocks" to passes
to NASCAR practice sessions at the KC track. I think everyone got a door
prize. They also had trophies for the car show. The Corvair people voted for
their favorites. I won for "Late, Closed" with was a bit difficult to explain to
my 7 year old daughter. She thought I was tardy and then they were closed.
Terry Kalp and co-driver Kirk Eck walked away with the funkana trophy, so
there was plenty of hardware going to Wichita.

Finally, I'd like to thank our Corvair brothers and sisters in HACOA for
their hospitality. They sure know how to put together a party and have fun. I'm
looking forward to their next birthday bash.
