I was very happy to see a Corvair fetch 19k on ebay. It was a very nice car
with mild modification ie. engine, paint, dash, but easily returned to stock
if so desired. It seems that the performance versions will always fetch more
than the standard versions of any 60's car regardless of make. The only
notable exceptions may be the first or last of a model. As a owner of two of
the rarer Corvairs built (two 1966 Turbo verts and a 1969 vert), determining
the actual production number of 1966 Corsa Turbo Convertibles is difficult
since the GM records were lost years ago due to a fire. The current estimate
of 585 is arrived at using the ratio of the known number of Corsa convertibles
built vs. the number of Corsa coupes multiplied by the known number of
Turbocharged cars built. So even with a variance of 10% either way, the number
is small (range 527 to 643). The 1969 Convertible on the other hand has no
uncertainty. GM published the production number for this model as 521 cars
built. So 500+ units out of 1.7 million makes for a rare car.
Sure hope the trend continues :)
